Bob Morgan Print Sale to Benefit East Helena Branch

The Lewis & Clark Library Foundation is sponsoring a print sale featuring Bob Morgan's latest print "The Day Before the Stacks Came Down...2009!".  Proceeds will be used to furnish and remodel the new downtown East Helena branch of the Lewis & Clark Library.  The autographed, numbered prints sell for $75 and are available at the Lewis & Clark Library - 120 S. Last Chance Gulch; Mountain West Bank - 1225 Cedar Street, Helena; the Ghost Art Gallery - 21 S. Last Chance Gulch, and Valley Bank East Helena Branch - 101 Lane Avenue, East Helena.

The painting of East Helena's most recognizable landmark was begun on a hillside overlooking the smelter site the day before the stacks were demolished last summer.  Morgan completed the painting several days later in his Helena studio.  He felt it was fitting to preserve on canvas what had been such an important element of East Helena's history.  He has donated the painting and the prints to the library in memory of Joe and Mary Basti, longtime East Helena residents and the parents of his wife of 61 years, Genevieve.  Joe Basti, an Italian immigrant, worked at the East Helena smelter for 35 years.

The original painting hangs in the new East Helena Branch Library, which is located in the old union hall on East Helena's Main Street.
